Release of 2009 vintage whites

ISTOCK_000007165672XSMALL_300sh

The Treeton Estate 2009 vintage whites have been released and are winning great reviews from our customers, old and new.

From today, these wines are available to buy online from our website. The new white wines are available by the case (single varietal or mixed case) at $184, including free freight to anywhere in Australia.

Breaking new ground for the winery, Treeton Estate has released its first Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (SBS) blend rather than our traditional Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has a full palate of passionfruit and gooseberry with a long fruity clean finish and a bouquet of citrus and passionfruit.

This wine is getting rave reviews from our customers and has taken a Bronze medal in its first wine show at Rutherglen (VIC).

Our 2009 Chardonnay is a beauty.  A crisp dry wine, rich in passionfruit and nectarine characters, finishing light and smooth, the bouquet is reminiscent of a fresh spring orchard.

While volume is down on the previous vintage, the 2009 vintage has responded to the corresponding superb fruit quality.

Responding to customer demand, David has crafted a beautiful Chenin Blanc, our first for several years. This wine is crisp and light on the palate with a long bright pineapple and passionfruit finish and a floral passionfruit bouquet.

This young wine is maturing beautifully in the bottle.  It is beginning to win great reviews from our customers and was the highest-scoring medal-winner for Chenin Blanc at the 2009 Rutherglen Wine Show

Wine and cheese pairing: DELI Divine

(C) 2009 DELI Divine
Similar to the theory that “red wine goes with with meat and white wine with fish”, an old adage of wine and cheese pairing is that “red wines go with hard cheeses and white wines go with soft cheeses”.  But just as there are exceptions to the  ”red wine with meat” rule, there are exceptions to the “cheese rule”.  Even the experts can’t agree on any absolutes in this wine and cheese pairing game.

And their is another complication.  Cheese and wine are constantly changing due to aging, vintage and processing techniques.  So our own judgements must be  a guide through this maze of matching uncertainty.

The matching affinity between most wines and cheeses allows a match to work most of the time.  But experimentation offers us the chance to get that ‘perfect match’, the ideal pairing for each Treeton Estate vintage, at the time of bottle opening.

To help us with the experimentation, we have paired up with DELI Divine in in the Crossways Shopping Centre, Subiaco (behind the Post Office on Rokeby Road).  This gourmet delicatessen is the brian-child of Michael Donald and Yvette Jones. It offers a range of the finest gourmet meats (natural and smoked), cheese (local and imported) and antipasto products and a selection of the most delicious and decadent preserves, cooking ingredients and accompaniments that you are ever likely to see.

Specialising in ‘cheese from the wheel’, DELI Divine stocks cow’s milk, goat’s milk, sheep’s millk and buffalo milk varieties.  A reputation for good advice and an enticing range  has made the shop a favorite destination for cheese-lovers.

To create a balance and harmony with our wines, we will be working with Michael and Yvette to bring you those ’something different’ cheeses to perfectly pair with your 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon or the about-to-be-released 2009 Chenin Blanc.

Pre-release note: 2009 vintage whites

Our three white wines of the 2009 vintage have been in the bottle for 5 weeks and are reaching perfect condition.  We are just waiting on delivery of the labels before releasing the wine to market.

Along with our traditional unwooded Chardonnay, Treeton Estate will be releasing a Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (SBS) blend that marks a departure from our traditional straight Sauvignon Blanc.  Responding to customer demand, we have  crafted a Chenin Blanc, our first for several years.

Tasting notes will be provided over the next two weeks.  The quality is superb and reception from our customers has been hugely positive.

We look forward to your comments in the tasting room on North Treeton Road, Cowaramup.

Completion of web design update

(C) 2007 Corinne McGowan

After much discussion over style and format, the Treeton Estate website design update has been completed.

Our developers, OM4 of Shenton Park (Western Australia), were great to work with as we continued to refine our ideas and strip away unnecessary detail.

The result is simplicity – both to read and to maintain.  Thank you Glenn and James!

The 2009 vintage

(C) 2009 Corinne McGowanIn the vineyard, we share our harvests with nature.  So every year is different.

For the white grapes, this has been the year of the Chenin Blanc: offering us an exuberant, perfect harvest. For the first time in some years, David will be making a Chenin wine, to be released mid-year.

Over recent years, Treeton has made alternate vintages of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. At the request of our customers, we plan this year to release both a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blend.

Treeton’s white grapes were harvested on the weekend of March 14, with the help of family and friends. Under David’s close and constant supervision, all grapes were processed and the juice pumped into tanks by the Sunday evening.

2009 has been a fantastic year for our Shiraz .  Before harvest, vines in the Valley, Home and Park Blocks were hung with luscious black bunches. With medals for the 2007 and the 2008 vintage developing beautifully under oak, it is hard to remember when a more perfect crop has come off the Estate.

The Cabernet Sauvignon harvest was disappointing light but the grape flavours are superb.  We expect a smaller than usual release that will sell out quickly.

The red grapes were harvested on the last day of March. After a cool, dry morning, we were delighted to be driving the last bins out of the vineyards as a light misty rain began to fall.

We look forward to sharing the 2009 harvest with you as our wines are released.
