Down from Perth last weekend, Rebecca Sproule and Shane Fieldgate called into Treeton after diving on the HMAS Swan wreck in Geographe Bay (Rebecca in photo).
This River Class Frigate Destroyer Escort was commissioned into the Royal Austalian Navy on 2o January 1970. After 26 years in service, she nows sits on the sandy bottom in 30 metres of water just off of Point Piquet at Meelup.
The two divers relaxed and enjoyed the Treeton Estate white and red wines. A perfect way to end a fantastic diving experience.

David’s careful charting of Baume levels for each grape variety in our vineyard allows him to predict – with some margin for error – when to lock in the harvest. With the countdown now measured in days for the whites, our grapes are looking gorgeous.
This is the time when all the paraphernalia of the vintage – the tractors, bins, crusher, press, pumps, hoses and refrigeration – need to be meticulously clean, carefully checked and working perfectly.
The contractors and friends of the winery must be booked and ready to go on the day.
Dealing with nature, we know that things can go wrong. So we wait patiently and are hopeful of a great vintage.

Over the first two weeks of January 2010, an unusual series of days over 40 degree Centigrade caused significant problems for some grape growers in the Margaret River Wine Region.
Throughout the growing season at Treeton Estate , we carefully manage the vine canopy to minimise both problems with predatory birds and the risk of heat exposure to the young grapes. While somewhat reducing total grape yield, this strategy has allowed our vineyards to come through the recent heat wave without damage to the young grapes (photo of the Chardonnay above).
The 2010 vintage is shaping up to be another good one for ‘the cool heart of Margaret River‘.
This year, the warmer weather will allow us to harvest earlier than in 2009, but still well within the usual range of recent historical vintages. We look forward to sharing the results with you as the whites are released mid-year

The Treeton Estate 2009 vintage whites have been released and are winning great reviews from our customers, old and new.
From today, these wines are available to buy online from our website. The new white wines are available by the case (single varietal or mixed case) at $184, including free freight to anywhere in Australia.
Breaking new ground for the winery, Treeton Estate has released its first Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (SBS) blend rather than our traditional Sauvignon Blanc. The wine has a full palate of passionfruit and gooseberry with a long fruity clean finish and a bouquet of citrus and passionfruit.
This wine is getting rave reviews from our customers and has taken a Bronze medal in its first wine show at Rutherglen (VIC).
Our 2009 Chardonnay is a beauty. A crisp dry wine, rich in passionfruit and nectarine characters, finishing light and smooth, the bouquet is reminiscent of a fresh spring orchard.
While volume is down on the previous vintage, the 2009 vintage has responded to the corresponding superb fruit quality.
Responding to customer demand, David has crafted a beautiful Chenin Blanc, our first for several years. This wine is crisp and light on the palate with a long bright pineapple and passionfruit finish and a floral passionfruit bouquet.
This young wine is maturing beautifully in the bottle. It is beginning to win great reviews from our customers and was the highest-scoring medal-winner for Chenin Blanc at the 2009 Rutherglen Wine Show

Like wine, cheese is made through a fermentation process that creates a range of attributes that relate to their components, texture and flavour. Creating a cheese that may have a salty, tangy or bitter taste and a texture that can range from smooth and velvety to hard and crumbly. Flavour can vary from mild to sharp, subtle to intense, grassy to spicy and pungent.
The differences we discover when we taste a cheese may result from any part of the process – from fermentation to ripening to aging – but usually involves a combination of all three.
And like wine, cheese is a living thing that can change significantly during the aging process. Changes occur both as planned by the producer and later, while the cheese has been packaged for distribution. Like wine, cheeses can range from fresh, young and simple to aged, mature and complex.
Why do wine and cheese ‘work’ so well together?
- At one level, wine clears the palate both by a ‘washing’ effect and through tannins and alcohol increasing the production of saliva. So alternating wine with food helps cleanse the palate for more wine.
- At another level, the fat, proteins and acid of the cheese combine with acids and tannin in the wine to soften the impact of acid, bitter and astringent tastes on our palate.
- Finally, the dilution of alcohol when wine is consumed with food promotes the release of more complex aromatics that stimulate our sense of smell and create a more pleasant finish to the wine.
Over the coming months, we will be working with DELI Divine in Subiaco to bring you some special (and unusual) cheeses to experiment in pairing with the Treeton Estate wines.
